Here's One of County Line's Success Stories
Hi! My name is Drake. I am a two year old Shih Tzu and I live with my family and sister Lola. Last spring my family decided to take a vacation. Easter morning my family took off to Miami and my sister and I went to stay with my grandparents. We were so excited to go on our own vacation to grandma’s house. Later that evening, I started to not feel so well. By the next morning I was in a lot of pain and making some loud noises. I made the noise for my mommy so she could hear it over the phone. She said she had not heard me make such a noise before. Grandma called my doctor and they got me in right away. Dr. Vleuten realized I was in terrible pain and took some x-rays. I had a few kidney stones that were completely blocking my system. They tried to help me pass the stones, but unfortunately those nasty stones were stuck. Dr. Vleuten said I needed emergency surgery. This surgery was pretty serious because there was a possibility they may need to reconstruct how I went potty. My mommy had complete faith in the staff at County Line Animal Hospital and gave permission to let Dr. Silva proceed with the surgery. My family was so worried about me and wanted to come home from vacation, but they were already on the cruise ship and could not leave. Luckily, they were able to talk to Dr. Vleuten before they lost reception to know I was out of surgery and headed to recovery. I ended up spending the entire week at the hospital. Everyone was so nice to me and took such good care of me while my family was away. I was a lucky boy to have so many good people watching over me. When I was able to finally leave to go home, my family was back from vacation and was there to pick me up. They were so happy to see me and said vacation was hard to enjoy knowing I was sick. It took several weeks for me to really feel all better, but now I am doing great. I have to be on a special food now because I make all 3 kinds of kidney stones. They say I am a special boy J My family and I want to thank County Line Animal Hospital from the bottom of our hearts for saving me and making me feel all better.
Doctor’s note: Upon presentation to our hospital Drake was diagnosed with urinary calculi (urinary tract stones) blocking his urethra, which is the pathway that carries urine from the bladder to the outside. To remove the stones we incised into the urethra and created a new permanent opening to allow for free passage of urine. Drake required intensive aftercare and time to heal, and he handled it like the brave and sweet dog that he is!
